Awana is a ministry of Summit Christian Church. It is a mid-week evening children’s gathering. The prayer of Awana is that every child would come to know, love, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. This is our prayer for your child!
Awana is split into specific clubs based on age group. At Summit, we have several formal Awana clubs:
Cubbies (3's & 4's) participate in the following activities during the evening:
For Sparks (K-2nd grade) and T&T (3rd-6th grade), after opening ceremony, the evening is split into three main parts:
For Trek (7th-8th grade) & Journey (High School), after opening ceremony, the evening is split into four main parts:
At game time clubbers play running games around the Awana circle and have fun! Clubbers will be split into four color teams and play around the Awana game circle and points will be counted to determine the winning team. Games will be carefully considered for the 2020-21 season to ensure fun, safe & healthy activities.
Small group time is discussion and discipleship regarding the week's lesson topic and your child’s opportunity to recite memorized scripture from their specific Awana handbook in a small group setting with the same adult each week.
Large group time includes singing and a Bible lesson in a large group setting. At the end of large group time, those clubbers that earned handbook awards during the evening will be recognized and the winning team will be announced.
The timing and organization of each club activity are subject to change as needed during the club year for our individual clubs to be effective.
The annual dues includes your clubber’s handbook (one per year) and participation in weekly club activities. Uniforms and optional items are available at additional costs and can be ordered through the club secretary. We desire that all children be able to participate in Awana and special activities. If expenses are or become a burden for your family, please talk to the commanders or secretary. Flexible payment options are available.
Each clubber (child) new to their Awana club begins in a booklet introducing them to the club. The booklet is designed to be completed in two to five sittings with an Awana leader. This is a great starting point for you to begin helping your child to understand the Awana material and memorize scripture!
Scripture memory is one of the hallmarks of Awana. The Bible says, “I have hidden your word in my heard that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 110:11). Your clubber’s handbook is designed to be finished in one club year. Your clubber will need your help to complete the book in one year! The books are designed to be fun and educational. They contain Bible stories, character kids in real life situations, scripture memory selections (NIV), Bible study and activities. The book is split into sections. A section contains items to be completed in one sitting with an adult at Awana. Your child will be best prepared to complete their sections at Awana if they’ve received your help going though the section and the scripture memory prior to coming to club. Once all items in a section have been completed with an adult Awana leader, the leader will sign and date the page.
Most handbooks are to be completed in order beginning with the entrance booklet and book one of each club - with several exceptions. Clubbers continuing in the same club that didn’t complete their handbook from their previous year will continue with the same book. Clubbers completing a book prior to the last week of the club year are encouraged to complete the extra credit sections in their handbook and/or review their handbook, for which they will earn additional awards. Clubbers may begin the next book in a club year and/or complete more than one book each year if, and only if, their grade level permits moving to the next book of the club. If your clubber is completing their handbook sections at a fast pace and you have questions about what they’ll do next, please ask the director of their club or the commanders.
Wearing the Awana uniform is a privilege! Clubbers that have completed the entrance booklet for their club should wear their uniform each club night. Uniforms are where clubbers display their achievement awards and help reinforce a sense of community. Uniforms can be ordered from the secretary.
Cubbies (3's & 4's) earn patches for their vest after completing various sections (usually 2 to 4 verses). The Cubbie book is completed at the end of the year by saying one Bear Hug verse each club night. Your Cubbie will receive a Cubbie ribbon for completing the book at the end of the year.
For Sparks and T&T clubs, after a specified number of sections, your child will earn awards to display on the wings or uniform that corresponds to the book they’re working in. Your child will earn a book award when they have completed their handbook. All awards for completed handbooks are presented at the end of the year on awards night.
Awana bucks are back!
In Sparks and T&T clubs, Awana bucks are earned for:
Some club nights are designated as bonus-buck nights. Those items above marked with an asterisk (*) are bonus-buck eligible.
For Sparks + T&T, Awana store will be held 4 times during the Awana season. Children visiting the store at one time will be limited to ensure distancing.
Trek & Journey clubbers can redeem Awana bucks\points with the club Directors and choose from an assortment of gift cards.
In August & January, a calendar of theme nights for Sparks and T&T are distributed for the following months. Theme nights are a way to make each club night fun and unique. Check with the Cubbie director for a special Cubbie club calendar. The calendar also includes dates when club will not be held and breaks for Christmas. You can pick up the calendar from the secretary’s desk and find it online here.
Please accompany your clubber(s) into the building and obtain a name tag. Accompany your Cubbie(s) to the appropriate room and your Sparks or T&T clubber(s) to the main downstairs worship center and plan to stay with them until organized activity begins. Opening ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:45 for K-High School.
To ensure safety in the parking lot, please always park in a designated parking spot and accompany your children into the building when arriving (no "drop-offs") and remain with them until organized activity begins. Please also accompany children out of the building and through the parking lot when going home.
You are always welcome to stay during the club night. Due to room capacity restrictions, you may not be able to stay in the same room with your child. We’d especially enjoy having you volunteer to help out! If your clubber feels sick or is injured during the evening, we will contact you and let you know what has happened and whether your clubber will need to be picked up early.
For Cubbies (3 & 4 year olds), please plan to arrive to pick up your clubber(s) at 8:15.
For all other groups, pick-up time is 8:25. You will need to pick up your younger clubber(s) from their club rooms - they will not be allowed to leave the club rooms on their own. Cubbies can be picked up in the appropriate room, Sparks in the downstairs worship center and and T&T upstairs in The Loft. Trek and Journey students are dismissed from their room at the end of club.
Check the club calendar for general information about what’s happening and special event dates. Flyers and letters will be sent home with your clubbers as reminders of up-coming events.

There are regularly scheduled dates when club meetings will not be held. This year, Christmas break will begin on December 21 and regular club for clubbers will begin again on January 4.

Club cancellation due to weather will be posted on the website and Facebook by 6 pm on the club day and we'll do our best to post notices on the church doors. If you’re wondering whether we’re having club on an evening with bad weather, just check the website before you leave home!
We hope to take photos and video at Awana on a fairly regular basis and post them on the website for everyone to share and enjoy. Please be advised that your clubber(s) may appear in these posted photos and videos. If you have any concerns about this, please notify the Ministry Directors.
All volunteers are required to complete a background check through Summit Christian Church prior to serving in any children’s program.
For youth leaders under the age of 18, applicants are individually considered prior to placement with clubbers. High School age youth leaders (14+ years old) that are participating in Summit's Journey club may choose the club they prefer to serve with. We believe youth are “the church of today” and sincerely appreciate the willingness and commitment of youth leaders to serve in the ministry.
Wear your uniform and bring your handbook and Bible to club each week
Discipline is meant to be a loving approach to teaching children appropriate behavior. At Awana, we use two methods of discipline – the five-count and the three-count.
The five-count is the primary way leaders keep order in a group. The leader in charge will count to five slowly and loudly. Leaders and helpers respond by joining the five-count while clubbers respond by being quiet and still by the count of five. This is used in any club activity when a leader needs to get a group’s attention.
There are occasions when an individual child is misbehaving. At those times, the three-count is used.
There are processes in place to ensure a safe and secure environment for your child. If any incidents occur, they will be formally addressed. The Children’s Ministry Director will be immediately informed and consulted and you will be notified if your child was involved or affected. All incidents will be taken seriously and handled in a consistent manner.
Parents Night is especially designed for you to visit and participate in the evening’s activities with your child. The date may differ between Cubbies and the Sparks/T&T clubs – so watch the club calendar for your specific parents night!
The Awana GO! program allows your children to help children in other countries/under-resources areas to participate in Awana and learn the spiritual truths that we learn. Your clubber will be given a flyer with instructions regarding a donation. Please place the flyer and the donation in a plastic bag and include your clubber’s name. When the donation is turned in, your clubber will receive an Awana GO! patch for their uniform. The suggested donation is $5 and any donation will be accepted, appreciated and rewarded.

These events are for the whole family of K-High School clubbers! Pick-up a wood car kit and register for your car number with the secretary. You can cut out your car at home or have it cut and work on it at our annual Family Grand Prix Workshop. Clubber cars will race against each other on our very own aluminum track. There will be separate prizes for speed and design. Parents can design their own cars to race against other adult cars - just for fun. The Family Grand Prix Workshop will be on TBD. Grand Prix Race Day will be on TBD. Watch the calendar & flyers for times.
The Sparks-A-Rama is an event where our Sparks team(s) compete against other Sparks teams in the area in Awana games. Clubbers need to have completed at least ten sections during the current club year to participate. There may be two to three practices outside of regular club nights and the main event will take place on TBD. This event is optional for clubbers.
At the AwanaGames event our T&T team(s) compete against other T&T teams in the area in Awana games. Clubbers need to have completed at least ten sections during the current club year to participate. There may be two to three practices outside of regular club nights and the main event will take place on TBD. This event is optional for clubbers.
At Bible Quizzing our T&T teams will compete against other T&T teams in the area in a quiz format with questions pertaining to the material from their handbook. Clubbers need to have completed at least ten sections during the current club year to participate. There may be two to three practices outside of regular club nights and the main event will take place on TBD. This is also and optional event for clubbers.

Awards night is at the end of the year when we recognize the accomplishments of those clubbers that have completed a handbook. This is an event for the whole family to celebrate with your clubber!
Clubbers that have completed the 4th grade (and older) and two Awana books are eligible to go to West Coast Honor Camp at the end of June. Camp is a week of Awana fun with other clubbers in the Northern Nevada & Northern California area. There’s no question that great times will be had and God will be at work at camp. It’s an amazing time that your clubber will want to experience year after year. Partial and full scholarships are available on an as needed basis. In the Sparks and T&T handbooks, there are special parent pages designed for you to help your clubber through their book. Additionally, in the back the books there are several blue parent idea pages that include activities for you and your clubber(s) to participate in together to reinforce what they’re learning in the book.
